At Salon #6, we welcome writer and performer Dorien Dijkhuis, who will recite a series of poems in dialogue with the exhibition.

Dorien Dijkhuis expresses powerful emotions through subtle observations. For the Salon, she will read from her debut collection Waren we dieren (Were We Animals), about traces of those who came before us and what remains, about alienation and the question of whether we ever truly belong. From Solastalgia, about the sadness of a world that is changing whilst you are still in the midst of it.

She concludes with a new poem: “Er gaan verhalen” (Stories go around), about the longing to leave something behind that outlives us.

About the artist

Dorien Dijkhuis is a poet, writer and performer. She has written the poetry collection Waren we dieren (Nieuw Amsterdam) and the novel Dezelfde maan (Uitgeverij van Oorschot). In her work, she explores the boundaries between literary genres, both on and off the page. She enjoys collaborating with artists from other disciplines, such as musicians, illustrators and digital creators. This led to the creation of the poetic-musical performance Solastalgia and the virtual reality installation VER. As a poet, she is a regular guest at festivals and other venues, with or without an improvisational jazz band.
